Confirm the current classification

Record the ASIN, marketplace, current item type keyword, product type, category and browse placement visible in the account. Save any processing error or support response naming the field.

Do not infer the backend value only from where the product appears in search. Browse placement and item type are related but not identical catalog layers.

Define the product's primary function

Select the most specific valid classification supported by the current marketplace schema. Avoid choosing a value solely for traffic or to bypass a required field.

• What the product is, not only what it is used with
• Core materials, dimensions and included components
• Manufacturer category and model documentation
• Comparable products in the intended catalog branch
• Restrictions or required attributes tied to the category

Submit a field-level correction

State the existing and requested values, explain the product function and attach source evidence. If using a category template, preserve the exact file and processing report.

Review parent-child listings before changing the field. Children assigned to incompatible product types may lose valid relationships or attributes.

Verify downstream fields

Check required attributes, browse placement, listing status and search presentation after the change. Update connected feeds so the old item type does not return.
